Oregon Coast Golf Courses

Bandon Dunes Golf Resort -- Bandon, Oregon Bandon Dunes Golf Resort -- Bandon, Oregon

At Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, where the Pacific Ocean meets the rugged shoreline of the Southern Oregon Coast, three distinct courses await you.

The game of golf was born on rugged, wind-swept land just like this. Every hole, every hazard, every shot is defined by nature's infinite presence. As the elements change, so does the game. It's all part of the tradition of links golf. Lies are tight and conditions are lean. Bounce and roll are a much better measure of quality than color. Mastery of the ground game becomes a more important skill than raw power. The ingenious and inventive player is rewarded with multiple options on nearly every shot. Amongst the massive dunes and hearty pines, you'll discover golf in its purest state. Where nature is embraced, not conquered. And where the traditions of a time-honored game yield to an experience unlike any other.

Currently, Bandon and Pacific Dunes sit in the top 5 of almost all course ranking systems done by publications in the United States. In two surveys we obtained, they are ranked one and two with the new addition, Bandon Trails, in the top 15. Right in our own backyard we have what is quickly being referred to as the finest golf resort in the country. People literally come from all over the globe to play these courses.

Perhaps Golf Odyssey summed it up best: ".it is here, on this remote stretch of the wildly stunning Oregon coast, where the finest golf courses in the whole world quietly await you."

Sandpines Golf Links -- Florence, Oregon

Sandpines Golf Links -- Florence, Oregon

Up the coast a bit from Bandon Dunes in Florence, you’ll find Sandpines Golf Links. When Sandpines first opened it was rated the “Best New Public Course in America” by Golf Digest. The 7,252-yard, par 72 course is nestled amidst the Oregon sand dunes and towering pines. Sandpines Golf Links has been awarded numerous industry accolades, including a four and one-half star rating from Golf Digest's 2004-05 "Places to Play in USA."

Nestled amidst the wind swept sand dunes and towering pines, golf does not get any more breathtaking than Sandpines Golf Links. Sculpted by nature, this wonderful scene provided a delightful canvas for world-renowned golf course architect Rees Jones to create a magnificent array of holes.

Bringing the natural feel of the pine forest and crystal blue lakes into play on the outward nine gives one the feel of golf commonly found on the Monterey Peninsula or the woods of the Carolinas. The inward nine takes you back to golf's more traditional arena - the links land. Using the natural lay of the land, Jones brought the dune element to the forefront of the game from tee to green. Challenging yet generous, this course offers beginners and experienced golfers alike a chance to test their skills and indulge their senses.

Ocean Dunes Golf Links -- Florence, Oregon

Ocean Dunes Golf Links -- Florence, Oregon

Located in Florence along with Sandpines, Ocean Dunes Golf Links will surprise many. Designed by William G. Robinson, Ocean Dunes is a unique course that was built on a natural sand base so it provides a firm, dry playing surface throughout the year regardless of the conditions.

Your enjoyable round on this 6018 yard course can get difficult in a hurry if the wind kicks up, which is a more often than not occurrence on the coast. Ocean Dunes is a true golf links, so the wind can assist your ball in finding one of the many links style pot bunkers, sand dunes, beach grass areas or the wrong side of a double green. Its an enjoyable walk so leave the cart behind and fully take in the panoramic views of the Oregon coast terrain and the native plant materials such as Scotch broom, wax myrtle, shore pines and rhododendrons.

Salishan Spa & Golf Resort

Salishan Spa & Golf Resort -- Gleneden Beach, Oregon

Mark Swift - Head Golf Professional
Salishan. The name brings a flood of memories to many Oregon golfers. Perhaps as a junior player you participated in a high school match or a junior championship. Or, you passed between the nines on one of those car trips your parents might have been famous for.

Oregon golfers have been mesmerized by Salishan’s beauty since 1965. Originally designed by Fred Federspiel, the golf course displays 2 distinct styles of play. The first 9 holes winds its way through a coastal forest, with interesting changes of elevation on every hole, while the second 9 holes has a links feel to it, with views of the Pacific Ocean and its continual presence heard from every tee and green.

Peter Jacobsen and his golf course design firm were hired in 2003 to renovate the golf course. All 18 holes were thoroughly evaluated, redesigned and restored before the project was completed in 2004. The results of the renovation are astounding, relegating the old horror stories about Salishan into the folklore of Oregon Golf. Gone are the salal-lined fairways, the difficult putting surfaces, and the marginal conditions that coastal courses can be famous for.

Today, the Oregon golfer will find emerald green fairways, dotted with interesting bunkers, leading them to some of the best greens in the Northwest. Each hole is different from the last, and stunning from the tee, the fairway and the green. When the 2007 Pacific Northwest PGA Pro-AM was hosted at Salishan, I overheard a conversation between 2 players that summed up the experience; “It is 18 holes of eye-candy, and the conditions are some of the best we have encountered.” So, Oregon golfers, treat yourself to some eye candy this year.

Salmon Run Golf Course

Salmon Run Golf Course -- Brookings, Oregon

Ed Murdock – General Manager
Opened in 2000, Salmon Run is a great get away course. Surrounded by coastal Oregon forests, there’s nothing that will distract you from enjoying your round. Strategy and shot placement are essential here, but a thoughtful approach will result in a rewarding score. Spectacular views from elevated tee boxes, the best weather on the Oregon coast, and a challenging layout that follows Jack creek will ensure an exiting golf experience.

Hole #4 is Salmon Run’s signature hole. The tee is 100 ft. up a curving cart path named ‘Lombard Street’ by the locals. Tee up and you will see a stunning island green with a bunker on the right. The wind typically comes up the Chetco River valley in the afternoon, so choosing a club can be challenging, but the ample green is very forgiving if your putter is on.
