Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club -- North Plains, Oregon

Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club -- North Plains, Oregon

Scott Humphrey - PGA General Manager
Named by Golf Digest the “Best New Public Golf Course in the U.S.” when it debuted in 1992, Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club’s spectacular Ghost Creek Golf Club continues to be ranked among the nation’s best layouts thanks to its superb design, immaculate conditioning and stunning beauty. Nestled on 350 acres of remote, fertile farmland just 20 miles west of Portland, the course was designed by world renowned golf course architect Bob Cupp in the “old style,” leaving the terrain completely natural. With breathtaking panoramic views of the Coast and Cascade Ranges and four sets of tees on each hole, Ghost Creek offers players of all skill levels an enjoyable and truly memorable golf experience.

While less famous than its sister Witch Hollow Golf Course, where Tiger Woods won his unprecedented third consecutive U.S. Amateur Championship in 1996, Ghost Creek has its own championship golf history. The course played host to the 1993 and 1994 Nike Tour Championships won by David Duval and Mike Schuchart, respectively, and in 1996 Tiger shot a 69 at Ghost Creek to win medalist honors in the U.S. Amateur qualifying round, which was followed by his historic third consecutive win at Witch Hollow. Ghost Creek also played host to the 2000 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and the 2000 U.S. Girls Amateur Championship simultaneously.

Ghost Creek’s unforgettable golf is complemented by a variety of upscale amenities including outstanding dining and a variety of beautifully appointed banquet rooms for events of all types and sizes. World-class golf instruction and an award-winning golf shop round out this unique facility, making it a “must play” in the Pacific Northwest.

Langdon Farms Golf Club -- Aurora, Oregon

Langdon Farms Golf Club -- Aurora, Oregon

David Putney / Director of Golf
The word you hear most that describes the golf course at Langdon Farms Golf Club is fun. Langdon Farms is a links style golf course with depressed fairways that catch stray tee shots. You will need to be in the fairway in order to control your approach shot to the deceptively tough greens. There are 13 greens that have ridges that bisect some part of the putting surface. Depending on the pin position for the day, your approach shot to the green could leave you with a putt that breaks 20 feet and is as fast as the greens at Augusta.

Hole #6 is one of those fun holes. It is only 115 yards from the blue tees, and probably accounts for more X’s on the scorecard than any other hole. The green is small and has 2 ridges that run diagonally from left to right. A putt from the front of the green to the back will have four breaks to it. The green also slopes down severely on all sides to collection areas that are 7 feet beneath the green surface. From the collection area, you have an array of club options to try and get the ball to stay on the putting surface. If the shot is not precise, you will roll over the green into the collection area. Should you not hit it hard enough, you get a second chance to try your shot again. Hit that shot 3 or 4 times and fail to make the putting surface, you know it is time to pick up and head to the next tee box.

The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club -- Aloha, Oregon

The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club - Aloha, OR

Chris Rogers, Director of Golf – The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club

The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club – South Course
The South Course at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club debuted to the golfing public in August, 1997.  Measuring between 5,200 yards (red tees) and 7,200 yards (gold tees), the course presents a challenge to golfers of all abilities.

Course highlights include the 605-yard, par 5 6th hole, and the 460-yard, par 4 17th. The 6th requires players to negotiate no fewer than 15 strategically placed fairway and greenside bunkers. The 17th stands out not only for its beauty, but also for the water feature guarding the hole's left side and the distinctive double green, shared with the 11th and punctuated by a pot bunker separating the two putting surfaces.

Over the years the South Course has been the host venue to two of the region’s most notable golf events, Peter Jacobsen’s Fred Meyer Challenge, and the PGA Champions Tour major, the JELD-WEN Tradition.

The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club – North Course
The second course to debut at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club was the Bob Cupp-designed North Course.  Opened in April, 1998, the links-inspired layout features the Northwest’s only triple-green, as holes 1, 8, and 17 converge to form a putting surface that covers approximately 43,000 square feet.

The North Course is ideally suited for the golfer who wants to enjoy a links course experience without traveling to the coast.  The undulating hills, long grass mounds, and strategic bunkering give players plenty of challenges to negotiate throughout the round, and the three finishing holes (the par 3 16th, par 4 17th, and par 5 18th) are among the best in the region.

The Resort at the Mountain Golf Course -- Mt. Hood, Oregon

The Resort at the Mountain Golf Resort -- Mt. Hood, Oregon

Bryce Finnman – Head Golf Professional
Located within the Cascade Mountain range, the Resort at The Mountain is nestled amongst 300 acres of lush evergreens and bordered by the wild and scenic Salmon River. The simplicity, calming and beautiful scenery are why The Resort is high on the priority list for golf destinations. Don’t let the scenery distract you too much from your golf game though, because there is plenty of trouble on the course that can punish you if you are not paying attention to it.

The signature hole is #1 Foxglove, and at just 308 yards from the tips, decisions need to be made at the tee. The ego will always talk you into driver but with small pond that borders the right side of the green and the Salmon River running down the left side of the hole, driver is not always the best decision. If your hitting it straight, eagles are to be made but if it strays the bogeys can start to add up. Sitting in the middle of the fairway a large rock sits, and history tells us that geologically it came from Mt. Hood during it’s early volcanic state. You have to see it to appreciate how powerful the eruption had to have been.

During your stay, I highly recommend you sit outside our “lawns” area and have a bite and a beverage. The view is spectacular and will drain any bad memories from the course away.

The Resort at the Mountain offers 27 holes of golf and whether it is a day with friends, a corporate or charity golf event, your day will be enjoyed with us.

OGA Golf Course -- Woodburn, Oregon

OGA Golf Course -- Woodburn, Oregon

Brian Weaver - PGA Head Professional
After a generous donation of land by Tukwila Development Partners in 1992, architect Bill Robinson of Florence, Ore. transformed 179 acres of relatively flat hazelnut orchards into a championship 18-hole, 6,700-yard golf course and the new headquarters for the Oregon Golf Association.

Today the OGA Golf Course is a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary filled with mounds, natural wetlands, and large bunkers. With 14 of its’ 18 meandering holes threatening players with water hazards, the OGA Golf Course plays as a favorite to golfers of all levels yet offering an enjoyable walk along the wide fairways. It regularly ranks among the state’s elite courses on Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” list

From the tee on the signature par five 4th-hole, players are faced with a decision between driver, or a more conservative lay up with a hybrid or iron. A right-to-left sloping fairway forces a well struck shot to flirt with the wetlands just left and long of the landing area. As the battle continues, an uphill climb to the green includes a tricky left-to-right slope through the fairway that often feeds into the threatening wetlands. Smarter, more conservative play generally prevails on this challenging, yet memorable 515-yard hole.A championship experience best describes the OGA Golf Course, the home of amateur golf for Oregon and SW Washington and headquarters for the Oregon Golf Association. It is one of Oregon’s best courses and values. Its practice facility features a natural grass driving range and a large short game area. You’ll find 18-holes of pure golf enjoyment at a course that’s hosted more than 25 USGA and OGA competitions and has received numerous national accolades. One of just 17 Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries in the region, the course consistently ranks as one of the top 8 golf courses in Oregon according to Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play with a 4 ½ star rating. Best of all, it was named among the “Top 10 Affordable Golf Courses in the U.S.” by Golf Digest in 1996 assuring you a great value. They are open to the public, tee times may be reserved five days in advance, and walk-ins are always welcome.

Lewis River Golf Course - Woodland, WA

Darrin Nash - PGA Head Golf Professional

Lewis River Golf Course in nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Range in Woodland Washington along the most scenic stretch of the Lewis River. With tight tree lined fairways Lewis River offers a solid challenge for the experienced golfer as well as a great experience for the novice. Lewis River is the perfect place for group outings with a PGA staff to take care of your every need. After golf there is no better place to be than enjoying a meal or refreshments along the North Fork of the Lewis River.

Hole #12 is one of the most talked about holes in the northwest. This 647 yard par 5 is all you can handle. It requires 3 very good shots to get on in three. With trees left and right your tee shot must be straight. The second shot must be straight as well, with a pond on the right and a large pesky fir tree on the left you need to be down the middle. Once you reach the green you will find putting a challenge on this large very undulating green. Take a deep breath and good luck.

Stone Creek Golf Club

Doug Suse - Head Golf Professional

Stone Creek Golf Club is conveniently located just south of Portland in Oregon City. Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy designed the course and opened in June of 2002. The course is owned by Clackamas County and has been very well received. The course is unique in that it features two distinct nines B the front half is a traditional, links style and the back nine is lined with tall Douglas Firs and has some elevation change. Our course offers three lakes, four wetlands areas and 41 bunkers. There are four sets of tees, playing from 5,191 to the AJacobsen@ tees at 6,873.

Another unique aspect of Stone Creek is our drainage. We feel we have one of the firmest courses in the Northwest for winter golf. We spend significant resources to ensure the driest course conditions for year-round play.

Two of the most scenic holes are par 3=s. The 180 yard 6th hole is played over a lake with bunkers in front of the green and the 14th hole is 141 yards which requires a shot over wetlands and a stack of boulders protecting the green. One of Peter Jacobsen=s favorite holes is the par 4 ninth. This is a 397 yard hole from the back tees with two fairways to choose from B an upper elevated landing area with a clear view of the green; or a lower approach through a narrow opening between bunkers.

Indian Creek Golf Course

Dennis Dolin - PGA Head Golf Professional

Indian Creek Golf Course is located in the beautiful and scenic Columbia River Gorge just a short one-hour drive east of Portland. It sits in the foothills just above the town of Hood River. The course was built in 1990 but it fits into the land so nice it feels like it has been here forever. The course was built on land previously covered by pear orchards planted at the turn of the century. Some of these orchards still surround many of the holes on the course. Did you know that Hood River County is one of the largest producers of pears in the U.S.?

My favorite hole is number eight. It’s a 217-yard severe downhill par three with a hazard bordering the right side of the green. And a hillside on the left that often deflects shots across the green and into the hazard. Hitting the green is a must. Depending on the direction of the wind I have used every club from eight iron to three wood on this hole.

Some of the other features of the Indian Creek Golf Course are the many elevation changes, lakes and natural creeks that come into play on many of the holes. The greens are among the best in the state. They have lots of interesting shapes and contours and are always well conditioned, smooth and fast. The thing I get the most comments on is the breathtaking views of both Mount Adams and Mount Hood.

Nothing completes a day of fine golf like sitting on the patio of our restaurant having a beer or glass of wine or even or a meal while relaxing and looking at the stunning beauty of Mount Hood and talking about all of the birdie putts you should have made.
